Welcome to Monson Disaster Animal Response Team – the newest member of WMDART.
Monson Disaster Animal Response Team was created in response to personal experience during the June 1, 2011 tornado that completely devastated the community. Minutes after the tornado passed, the now Team Leader and her family had to leave their property. When they arrived at the shelter (which they traveled to in challenging conditions on foot) they were told that they could not stay because of their dogs. Since then the growing DART Team has been working hard to ensure that this won’t happen to people and their animals again.
Monson DART is essentially a task force within the Monson MRC and as such, Monson DART members are also Monson MRC members. We have grown very quickly under the guidance of some enthusiastic supporters such as Western MA MRC, SMART, Hampden County ACO’s and private sector kennels.
Just coming out of the “start-up” phase, Monson DART is actively seeking volunteers of all skill levels for various positions and tasks. All interested in helping people and their animals during a crisis are invited to become a Monson DART volunteer via the WMDART application process.
